Robert Dickson / Sean Waddilove
Ireland’s premier 49er crew — 14th at the 2026 World Championships
Born on 6 March 1998 and a product of Howth Yacht Club, Robert Dickson has twice raced the 49er at the Olympics with crew Sean Waddilove.
The pair were U23 World Champions in 2018 and have grown into one of Ireland's finest sailing stories. After finishing 13th at Tokyo 2020, they came agonisingly close to a medal at Paris 2024, holding second for almost the entire regatta before an early start in the medal race dropped them to fourth.
They have confirmed a third Olympic campaign toward Los Angeles 2028.
Sean Waddilove, from Skerries Sailing Club, crews for Howth's Robert Dickson in Ireland's leading 49er.
Since winning the U23 Worlds together in 2018, the pair have become Olympic regulars: 13th at Tokyo 2020 and a heartbreaking fourth at Paris 2024, where they led the medal-race chase all week before an early start in the final race cost them a podium place.
Waddilove and Dickson are now committed to a third Games campaign for LA 2028.
