Poland’s lightning-fast skiff team and multiple European podium finishers
Born in 2000, Mikolaj Staniul learned to race in the busy sailing scene of Poland's Tricity, starting out at the Gdynia yacht clubs before settling at AZS AWFiS Gdansk.
With long-time crew Jakub Sztorch he dominated the junior ranks, climbing from eighth (2018) to fourth (2019) to a record-margin Junior World title on home water at the 2021 Gdynia Sailing Days. The same year the pair won the senior European Championship in a nail-biting finish and were named Gdansk's athletes of the year.
In the senior fleet they continue to feature near the front, taking seventh at the 2026 World Championship in Quiberon.
Also born in 2000 and a product of the Gdynia and Gdansk sailing clubs, now racing for AZS AWFiS Gdansk, Jakub Sztorch has crewed for Mikolaj Staniul throughout one of the standout junior records in the class.
That run culminated in a dominant, record-margin Junior World Championship win at home in Gdynia in 2021 and a senior European title the same season, with the pair honoured as among Gdansk's top athletes of 2021.
They have carried that form into the senior fleet, finishing seventh at the 2026 Worlds in Quiberon.
