The World Sailing Awards 2024 are just around the corner, and we’re excited to announce that some of the top athletes from the 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra 17 classes have been nominated for their outstanding performances this year. Meet the Nominees and Their Achievements:
Odile van Aanholt & Annette Duetz (49erFX)
Nominated for: World Sailing Female Sailor of the Year & Team of the Year
Odile van Aanholt and Annette Duetz have been a dominant force in the 49erFX class. They secured the 2024 49erFX World Championship title, the Olympic gold medal in Paris, and the first participation in the women’s America’s Cup, demonstrating exceptional teamwork, speed, and strategy. Their synergy and determination have made them a standout duo in the international sailing scene, consistently performing at the highest level. This nomination recognizes their incredible achievements this season.
Diego Botin & Florian Trittel (49er)
Nominated for: World Sailing Male Sailor of the Year & Team of the Year
Diego Botin and Florian Trittel from Spain have had a stellar year, highlighted by their victory at 2024 Paris Olympics in the 49er class. They also won Season 4 of SailGP right before the Olympics in Marseille, and secured several podiums and wins at international events, such as the Trofeo Princesa Sofia. Their ability to maintain high speeds and execute flawless tactics has set them apart in the 49er fleet. They have proven themselves to be among the world’s best skiff sailors, earning them this prestigious nomination.
Ruggero Tita & Caterina Banti (Nacra 17)
Nominated for: World Sailing Male Sailor of the Year (Ruggero) & Team of the Year
Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti have continued to excel in the Nacra 17 class. Together, they clinched the 4 Nacra 17 World Championship titles, showcasing their mastery of the foiling multihull, and a second consecutive gold medal at the Olympics in Paris 2024. Known for their unmatched precision and coordination, Tita and Banti have consistently been at the top of their game, winning titles and setting new benchmarks in the class. Their nomination is a reflection of their dominance and commitment to excellence in Olympic sailing.
