Canadian Lewin Lafrance Sisters Win First Major Championship

Georgia and Antonia Lewin Lafrance have been on the rise for the last six years, and now find themselves on top. Over a weeklong series of 13 races, the Nova Scotia-based pair outdueled the German and Polish teams they entered the day virtually tied with for the win. Each day of the regatta was a […]

Veterans and Rookies Each Demolish Their Fleets to Win with Two Races to Spare

Both the 49er and Nacra 17 European Championships were secured with one fleet race and one medal race remaining to be sailed. John Gimson with Anna Burnet (GBR) might have been picked to win here in Thessaloniki with their long history of light wind excellence, and they delivered. They were 32 points ahead with a […]

The race to gold fleet was a slow burn

The race to gold fleet was a slow burn

Veteran and multi-Olympic race officer Sulis was clear at the morning briefing, “Our priority is to get three races for the 49er so they can progress to the gold fleet.” It took all day to get it done, but three good races for each fleet were conducted over a six-hour bake on the water.   […]

It can be easy to win

It can be easy to win

Win the start, grab the first shift, consolidate and extend! The winning formula is easy, and those who got ahead took full advantage of an easy course once they got to the front. For everyone else, it was a day of tense battles where any interruption or mistake to initiate a downward spiral of doubt […]

Austrians Prettner and Flachberger tip into early lead

Keanu Prettner with Jakob Flachberger (AUT) were locked in a light air duel with defending European Champions Hernan Umpiere with Fernando Diz (URU). The two teams were tipped by their fellow competitors as the ones to watch in light winds and delivered. 2028 is the first time we’ve been able to focus on Prettner/Flachbaker as […]

DAY 1 ANALYSIS: DUTCH VAN AANHOLT – DUETZ OPEN SKIFF OLYMPICS WITH POISE

The lighter the breeze, the higher the chance of an upset in sailboat racing. So it proved on day one of the competition with the Marseille breeze barely rising to 7 knots. In the Women’s Skiff, local French team Sarah Steyaert and Charline Picon made the early running in the opening race before being pipped […]

Poeto Beach, Cagliari

The Sardinia Sailing Cup will open the boat park to 49er/Nacra October 1th – the local organizing authority email : segreteria@sardiniasailingcup.it

General Info

For the training period in Cagliari prior to the opening of the village and the boat park, we recommend contacting the following clubs external to the organization that can provide spaces upon reservation.

Due to the high tourist season, it is recommended not to organize training sessions before September 8th.

Here the links to the associations and sailing club and marina services:

  1. Windsurfing Club Cagliari
  2. Yacht Club Cagliari
  3. Sezione di Marina Piccola for boat services: Lega Navale Italiana
  4. Polisportiva Mare Quartu/ Centro Velico
  5. For Boats/ Ribs: Motomar Sarda

Sailing Conditions

The beach is renowned for its favorable wind conditions, with prevalent Scirocco (SE) and Libeccio (SW) winds providing consistent breezes ranging from 8 to 35 knots. These conditions have made Poetto a preferred location for various water sports, including kitesurfing and windsurfing, and have hosted events like the Kite Foil World Championships .

Facilities and Amenities

Poetto Beach is well-equipped to support large-scale sailing events. The area features ample parking, numerous beach bars, and restaurants, ensuring that participants and spectators have access to necessary amenities.

Scenic and Cultural Appeal

Beyond its practical advantages, Poetto Beach offers a picturesque setting with its white sandy shores and clear turquoise waters. The backdrop of the Sella del Diavolo promontory adds to the visual appeal, providing a memorable experience for all attendees.

The Sardinia Sailing Cup will open the boat park to 49er/Nacra October 1th

What’s in Store:

  • Spectator Boats: Family and friends can catch the action up close on the water!
  • Ferris Wheel: For the best views of the racing and the stunning Sardinian coast.
  • Live Broadcast: Giant screens and event coverage so no one misses a moment.
  • Custom Merchandise Station: Personalize gear with a sailor’s name, team flags, and all official logos—an awesome souvenir and perfect way to show support!
  • “Try Out Sailing” Station: Visitors can get on the water themselves with paddleboards and beach catamarans—fun, safe, and a great way to introduce new people to the sport!

We’re working hard to make this a festival of sailing for the 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 classes, creating a village atmosphere inspired by events like The Ocean Race, SailGP, and America’s Cup.

Cagliari is one of the most beautiful places in the Mediterranean, with vibrant beaches, incredible food, and rich culture—so it’s the perfect time to turn this championship into a memorable trip for everyone.

Calling All Brands & Businesses!

We’re also inviting companies to be part of the action. If you know of any business that might want to set up a booth, showcase products, or collaborate during the event, please have them reach out to us directly. We’re building something big and would love to include them!

Let’s make this the biggest and best World Championship yet—see you in Cagliari!
