Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (02/23/24).- MedSailing 2024, organized by the Club Nàutic El Balís, has come to an end after ten intense days of competition in the waters of Sant Andreu de Llavaneres (Barcelona).
The FX Open Series closed this Friday this edition that began on February 15 with the 29th EuroCup. During these last four days the 49erFX have been the protagonists and where equality has been maximum until the last test.
The British William Pank and Hannah Morris were the absolute winners by beating the French Sam Chambet and Karl Devaux in the last round, who had been the dominant team throughout the championship. Both crews finished tied at 17 points after 12 tests, but the British added five first sets to four for the French. Third position on the podium went to the Swiss crew of Sam Chambet and Pierre Jully.
In the women’s category, the victory was Spanish, with the Galician-Balearic crew of Stella Maris Enríquez and Marta Cardona (RCN Vigo/CN Arenal), who finished with a fourth place overall, tied with the absolute third. Second were the Swedes Ebban and Ellen Fredriksson and third were the Swiss Sophie Studer and Johanna Klötzli.
The other Spanish crew in the running, formed by Daniel Cardona and Pablo Llorens (CN Arenal/RCN La Coruña) finished fifth in the final overall, some problems on the second day where they had to retire and lost three races prevented them from being able to fight for being on the podium.
The weather has been favorable in the FX Open Series in El Balís, with wind throughout the days that allowed up to twelve rounds to be held.
The sports director of CN El Balís, Magda Resano, was very satisfied with this edition of the MedSailing: “It has been two very intense weeks, first with the 29er and then with the FX, and we ended up very happy with how everything went” .
Regarding the novelty of the FX, he explains that “this first experience has been very good for both the participants, the class, and the club. This year we had the handicap that the World Cup will be next week in Lanzarote and even so we have had 11 boats. “We are going to continue working so that next year we can double participation and in this regatta we want quality to prevail over quantity.”
In this first participation of the 49erFX in MedSailing, eleven crews from six countries have taken part: Spain, France, Finland, Great Britain, Sweden and Switzerland.
