Jakob Meggendorfer's sailing story began at age seven, in 2003, at an Optimist training session on the Chiemsee run by the Seebrucker Regatta-Club, the very session attended by a boy named Andreas Spranger. The two have sailed together virtually ever since.

They moved into the 29er in 2010 and stepped up to the Olympic 49er in 2012. Representing the Bayerischer Yacht-Club on Lake Starnberg, the long-time partners reached the pinnacle of the sport at Paris 2024, where they competed for Germany.

They produced the best result of their careers with fourth place at the 2026 World Championship in Quiberon, confirming their place among the world's leading crews.

Andreas Spranger met his skipper Jakob Meggendorfer as a seven-year-old at a 2003 Optimist camp on the Chiemsee, and the pair have been a team for the best part of two decades, a rare continuity in Olympic sailing.

After progressing through the 29er from 2010, they committed to the 49er in 2012 and built a campaign that carried them to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Sailing out of the Bayerischer Yacht-Club, Spranger crews in one of Germany's most settled partnerships.

The pair established themselves among the world's best, capped by a career-best fourth at the 2026 Worlds in Quiberon.
