Martine Grael / Kahena Kunze

Martine Soffiatti Grael was born on 12 February 1991 in Niterói, Brazil, into one of the country's most storied sailing families; her father, Torben Grael, won five Olympic medals. Teamed with Kahena Kunze, she won the 49erFX world title in 2014, the year the pair were named World Sailors of the Year, then Olympic gold at Rio 2016, by two seconds over New Zealand in the class's Olympic debut, and again at Tokyo 2020. They added Pan American Games gold in 2019 and 2023 and finished 8th at Paris 2024.

Outside the FX she raced the 2017–18 Volvo Ocean Race with Team AkzoNobel. In 2024 she became SailGP's first woman driver with the new Mubadala Brazil team, and in July 2025 the first woman to win a SailGP fleet race, in New York. After leaving Brazil in September 2026 she was called up as interim driver of the U.S. SailGP Team at the Switzerland Sail Grand Prix. She sails out of Rio Yacht Club.

Kahena Kunze was born on 12 March 1991 in São Paulo, Brazil. She is one half of Brazil's most decorated 49erFX partnership, sailing alongside Martine Grael since they teamed up ahead of the class's Olympic debut. Before the FX she raced the 470.

The pair became world champions in Santander in 2014, were named World Sailors of the Year, and went on to win back-to-back Olympic gold: first at Rio 2016 on home waters, by two seconds in the medal race, then again at Tokyo 2020. They added Pan American Games titles at Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023 and finished 8th at Paris 2024. She sails out of Iate Clube do Rio de Janeiro under coach Javier Torres del Moral.
