Champions Crowned at the 2025 Junior Worlds in Rungsted

The final day of racing at the 2025 49er & 49erFX Junior World Championship in Rungsted delivered one last burst of drama before rapidly deteriorating weather conditions brought the event to an early close. With building winds, heavy rain, and unpredictable waves across the Øresund, race officials successfully completed one final race before calling off the remainder of the competition for safety reasons.

The sailors have truly shown their sportsmanship this week—taking every race opportunity with gusto,” said event organiser Tomas Dyrbye during the closing ceremony.

Despite the challenging weather, morale remained high ashore. Applause and celebration rang out not just for podium finishers, but for all competitors who demonstrated exceptional determination, teamwork, and resilience throughout the regatta.

Rebekka Johannesen of Denmark, winner of the FX Open Junior World Championship, captured the mental demands of the event, stating:
“We still love sailing, but it is hard mentally—you have to be prepared all the time to go on the water. But it’s part of the game.”

Germany’s Katharina Schwachhofer, who with Elena Stoltze secured the 49erFX Junior World Championship title, added:
“Today was rock and roll for us—we had a lot of fun. The key point was just enjoying it.”

Her teammate Elena Stoltze summed up the competitive spirit of the fleet:
“In sailing, you just do every race like it’s the last one.”

Ben Remocker, Class Manager for the 49er and 49erFX, praised the high standard of performance on display:
“It’s always exciting to see the next generation of top sailors step into the class, ready to take on the world.”
