Freya Black / Saskia Tidey

Freya Black / Saskia Tidey
Great Britain’s fastest FX crew, 9th at the 2026 World Championships
From Tunbridge Wells, Freya Black is a former junior European and national champion who paused a philosophy, politics and economics degree at the University of Exeter to chase her Olympic ambitions.
She teamed up with three-time Olympian Saskia Tidey at the end of 2021, and the partnership rose quickly: fifth at the 2023 World Championship in The Hague qualified Great Britain for Paris 2024, where Black made her Olympic debut.
She and Tidey, who are close friends and play tennis together in their downtime, continue to campaign as British medal hopes toward Los Angeles 2028.
Born in Dublin on 11 June 1993, Saskia Tidey is a three-time Olympian who first represented Ireland before switching to Great Britain, and crews for helm Freya Black.
The vastly experienced front-of-boat sailor brings the speed and steadiness that helped the young partnership qualify Britain for Paris 2024 with fifth at the 2023 Worlds.
With similar personalities and an easy off-water friendship, including a shared love of tennis, Tidey and Black are regarded as consistent contenders in the 49erFX as they target a fourth Games for Tidey at LA 2028.
