Erwan Fischer came to Olympic sailing with a clear ambition, to race a home Games, and joined forces with Clement Pequin just two years after taking up the sport.

The gamble paid off spectacularly: in 2024 the pair became the first French crew ever to win the 49er World Championship, in Lanzarote, and went on to represent France at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

France's national coach describes Fischer as the instinctive, agile half of the partnership, quick-reacting and athletic on the wire, a style that helped the duo reach the very top of a deep French squad.

Clement Pequin is, in the words of France's 49er coach, calmness personified and a real thinker, the analytical counterweight to skipper Erwan Fischer's instinct.

The complementary pairing has worked extraordinarily well. Six years after first sailing together, they made history in 2024 as the first French crew to be crowned 49er World Champions, in Lanzarote, then carried the hopes of the host nation at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Sailing within the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region's program, Pequin and Fischer remain among the leading lights of French Olympic sailing.
