Vilma Bobeck / Rebecca Netzler

Vilma Bobeck was born January 5, 1998, in Saltsjö-Boo, Sweden. As a youth she raced the Europe dinghy, winning silver at the 2015 Europe World Championship. Her first 49erFX partnership won the 2018 U23 World title and 2019 Europeans bronze but narrowly missed Tokyo 2020 qualification, and she stepped away from the sport. In 2022 a phone call from Rebecca Netzler brought her back — the two had trained at the same Motala sailing school without ever competing together. The new partnership improved fast: Europeans bronze and Worlds silver (2022), Worlds gold in The Hague (2023), Worlds silver in Lanzarote (2024, a regatta in which Netzler briefly fell overboard mid-race), then Paris 2024 Olympic silver. After Netzler's September 2025 retirement, Bobeck continued with a new crew, winning silver at the 2025 Worlds in Cagliari.

Rebecca Netzler was born July 22, 1995, in Östersund, northern Sweden, coming to sailing via a summer-school flyer her mother picked up, then attending the Motala sailing school from age 16. In 2022 she proposed a partnership to fellow Motala alumna Vilma Bobeck — friends and coaches had long asked why the two hadn't teamed up. The gamble paid off quickly: Europeans bronze and Worlds silver in their first season together (2022), Worlds gold in 2023, Worlds silver in 2024, and Paris 2024 Olympic silver. Netzler retired from 49erFX sailing and ended her Olympic campaign in September 2025.
