2025 European Champions — Germany’s golden girls of the 49erFX
Marla Bergmann, the helmswoman, has been friends with her crew Hanna Wille since childhood, and the pair sail out of the Muhlenberger Segel-Club on Hamburg's Elbe.
They are the first crew in the club's history to qualify for the Olympic Games, which they did for Paris 2024, finishing sixth. In 2025 the young German team won their first major title together, becoming European Champions in Thessaloniki.
Still in her early twenties, Bergmann is among the leaders of a notably deep generation of German FX sailors.
Hanna Wille crews for childhood friend Marla Bergmann, the two having grown up together before turning their friendship into an Olympic partnership at the Muhlenberger Segel-Club in Hamburg.
They made history as the first MSC crew to reach the Olympics, racing at Paris 2024 and finishing sixth, and capped 2025 by winning the European Championship in Thessaloniki, their first shared major title.
The pair are part of a strong wave of young German talent in the 49erFX.
