Yorkshire, UK – 21st August 2017 – Kingfisher Yacht Ropes, the marine specific arm of innovative rope products distributer, the DSM Group, has entered into a partnership agreement with the International 49er Class and International Nacra 17 Class Associations.

DSM, a family run business, was established in 1982 and manages a global distribution of products such as dinghy / yacht ropes, load straps, twines and slings from its four UK-based factories. Kingfisher Yacht Ropes was set up in 2002 and is now one of the most recognizable names for rope in the UK leisure marine market. With an ambitious plan for expansion in international distribution outlets for its products, Kingfisher Yacht Ropes has identified the activities of Olympic Classes such as the 49er, 4erFX, and Nacra 17 as providing the perfect platform for this growth.

Kingfisher Yacht Ropes will be appointed by the classes as a Technical Partner, supporting the 49er Class and Nacra 17 Class Associations, by not only providing equipment for the unique on-water ‘Theatre Style’ racing lane ropes at key Class events such as the World Championships, but also by providing sailors and their teams with discounted access to their entire range of sailing specific ropes and accessories through key retail partners. The offering of discounts available via the partnership includes access to ropes produced by Italian performance rope manufacturers Gottifredi Maffioli, for whom Kingfisher is a distributor.

Kingfisher Yacht Ropes managing partner Nigel Saddington said of the partnership: “Kingfisher are proud to partner with the International 49er and Nacra 17 Class Associations. We aim to give technical support on rope products to the Association as well as the sailors and teams they represent. It is the next step up for us as a company from what we have been so far engaged in with our ‘Team Kingfisher’ sponsored athletes. In the past, we have tried to select mainly junior sailors who really needed additional help to support their sailing through subsidising the cost of ropes and providing them with a high-end product that, without this support would otherwise be out of reach. We will continue with this existing support for youth sailors but are also now looking towards working with World Class high-performance sailors such as those that are campaigning in the 49er, 49er FX and Nacra 17 Classes. With this partnership now in place, we look forward to helping support these athletes towards their goals of Olympic success. ”

Commenting on the partnership with Kingfisher Yacht Ropes, 49er and Nacra 17 Class President, Marcus Spillane said: “I am delighted to have come to an agreement with Kingfisher Yacht Ropes, a company that shares our core value of supporting our sailors and is willing, not only to work with us to further develop the events that the classes deliver, but also provide tangible benefits for all our international sailors and teams. I look forward to working with the team at Kingfisher to achieve these aims and am excited by what we can develop together.”
