Mattias Coutts arrived in the 49er with serious foiling pedigree as a former Moth world champion, and has paired with Oscar Gunn to lead New Zealand's next generation in the men's skiff.

The duo announced themselves in 2026 with a strong showing at French Olympic Week in Hyeres, winning their final race to climb to ninth, their best result as a team, and battled into the gold fleet at the World Championship in Quiberon.

They carry New Zealand's hopes forward after the country's Paris 2024 silver medallists stepped away.
