Vilamoura Sailing stage centre is increasingly sought after by the main sailing teams from all
over the World.

The 4th Portugal Grand Prix (Round 2), which was sailed between 20 and 23 February, once again
had the Vilamoura Marina as its setting.

The final day of the competition confirmed Polish Crew Dominik Buksak and Szymon Wierzbicki as
the winner in the 49er class, followed by Italians Uberto Crivelli Visconti and Giulio Calabrò, in
a dramatic last day, when after racing a protest between the Polish and the Italians could have
changed the outcome of the results.

With the wind blowing from Est, between 8 and 16 knots, the winners were confirmed in the last
races of the Portugal Grand Prix (Round 2).

In Nacra 17, The French Tim Mourniac and Lou Berthomieu finished victorious, with denmark’s
Natacha Saouma-Pedersen and Mathias Borreskov second.

Johanne Schmidt and Andrea Schimidt won the Portugal Grand Prix in the 49er Fx class, having
achieved the best performance in the set of 4 days of competition, and also won the Portugal
Grand Prix Ranking and took home a “fat” prize money of 3 500€.

With the racecourses set up very close to the shore, who in recent days enjoyed the Algarve
sun, had the privilege of enjoying a unique spectacle, with hundreds of sails in the water.
Vilamoura Sailing takes advantage of the presence of hundreds of Olympic class sailors, who
choose Vilamoura for their preparation, to hold the Portugal Grand Prix race, a world ranking
for the 49er, 49er Fx and Nacra 17 classes.

The mild climate, great sea and wind conditions for sailing, made Vilamoura the choice of 70
countries, to make their winter preparation.

Vilamoura Sailing Center Center just about reached its maximum capacity with the presence of about 400 sailors, the most important teams in the world.

For Isolated Correia, director of Vilamoura Marina, the Vilamoura Sailing project is “a source of
pride for the Vilamoura Marina. In the last five years it has brought Vilamoura more than
15,000 athletes from 83 countries. With the activity to focus over the winter, this project
effectively combats seasonality.”

Shipping & Logistics

The Royal Geelong Yacht Club is situated in the heart of Geelong and central along the waterfront. The Club will temporarily extend its footprint to create a boat park for the 49er/FX/Nacra 17 World Championships. We will therefore not be able to accommodate Trailers or Containers on site. A separate Trailer/Container compound will be setup at Limeburners Point Boat Ramp on the waterfront approx. 2km from the Yacht Club which will also be the main RIB launching area. Those wishing to store containers at Limeburners Point will need to contact Cargo Live to book and arrange details (there is only space available for approximately 25 containers on site).  Cargo Live is the Official Event Logistics partner and will be managing container storage bookings for the event.

CargoLive Global Events are the logistics experts when it comes to major sporting events. Having been in business for more than 40 years, they have helped hundreds of competitors with all the logistics that goes with competing around the world. From the 2016 Rio Olympic Games to the 2019 Miami world championships, CargoLive have taken care of shipping for both competitors and regatta organisers. They are the main sponsors of the Australian Olympic team and also a supporter of Sailing Australia and other sporting events.

CargoLive will have a dedicated team to assist sailors competing in this year’s World Championships in Geelong and can assist with international shipping, customs clearance, border security and trucking. CargoLive will have staff on the ground at the event to supervise unpacking and packing and will also handle general queries about shipping to make life easy for visiting sailors and teams. If you wish to ship your boats for the next regatta or return home, they can help with it all.
