Erik Heil and Thomas Ploessel piled on the pressure on the final day of the 2015 Princess Sofia Trophy Regatta in Palma today.  Starting out the day with two bullets, they closed the gap to leading Kiwi stars Peter Burling and Blair Tuke to only 14 points.  With one race remaining on the day the fleet headed out for a final race in dying breeze and the Germans got caught just out to all but hand the victory to the New Zealanders.  There is a 16 point gap between first and second, which would require a first to last finishing in the medal race tomorrow or a second to DNF/DSQ, long odds.

With the top of the podium virtually set, it’s almost the same story for the Bronze.  There is a large gap from second to the third place team of Dante Bianchi and Thomas Low-Beer (BRA).  The Brazians also have a 16 point gap to fourth place, Jonas Warrer and Anders Thomsen (DEN) and again will have all but locked up their first ever medal in a top ranked 49er event.  With such an inexperienced team in a top position, there may be fear for their nerves, but no doubt these two will share in the revelry tonight before hitting the water again tomorrow
