Thessaloniki, Greece to Host the 2025 European Championship in Nacra 17, 49er, and FX

Thessaloniki will proudly host the first championship following the Olympic Games for the second consecutive quadrennial. From June 3 to 8, 2025, the picturesque shores of the Thermaikos Gulf, in the North Aegean Sea, will witness thrilling races featuring catamarans and skiffs—the very vessels that grace the Olympic waters.

Our esteemed hosts, the Nautical Club of Thessaloniki, continue their long-standing tradition of organizing a variety of sailing events. From Olympic Class world championships to Youth pathway competitions, the events are open to sailors of all skill levels and backgrounds, promoting a sense of community and inclusivity. The club, which has been recently updated, serves as a standout feature along the beautiful coastline.

The European Championship in 2025 is crucial for teams with their sights set on the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Returning teams from Paris 2024 will compete alongside emerging talents who have honed their skiff skills during an additional year of training. Anticipation runs high, particularly in the 49erFX class, where familiar names—veterans since the class’s inception—are expected to leave their mark.

Excitingly, the championship formats have also evolved. While final details are still in progress, the Nacra 17 catamaran class is likely to conclude with a match race, reminiscent of the foiling America’s Cup. Meanwhile, the 49er and FX classes will adopt a first-to-win-three system, akin to the thrilling world of kite surfing.
